The Dele Awe Foundation has opened its 2026 scholarship, and applications close on Friday, October 30, 2026. That’s 20 days from today. The foundation gives out about 100 scholarships every year to Nigerian students who show academic promise and need help with money.
This one is not for every Nigerian student, though. Only students from four communities can apply. Check that first, before you do anything else.

About the Dele Awe Foundation Scholarship
The Dele Awe Foundation helps young Nigerians go to school and learn skills. It has been doing this since 2010. It pays for university scholarships, gives career training support, and shares learning materials. It also helps artisans and tradesmen and women earn better, which is a different part of its work from the scholarship.
Communities that can apply for the Dele Awe Foundation Scholarship
You must come from one of these places:
- Irede LCDA, Ipoti-Ekiti, Ekiti State
- Omuo-Oke-Ekiti, Ekiti State
- Ayetoro Gbede, Kogi State
- Ora-Igbomina, Osun State
If you are not from any of these four communities, this scholarship is not for you this year. Skip to the last section of this post for other options.
Who is eligible for the Dele Awe Foundation Scholarship 2026
For the tuition scholarship, you need to meet all three of these:
- You come from one of the four communities above.
- You are admitted to, or already studying in good standing at, an accredited Nigerian university, polytechnic or college of education.
- Financial need. You have to show it.
Still in secondary school? There is a separate route for you. You can apply for support with your WAEC or NECO registration. It’s a different application from the tuition one.
What the Dele Awe Foundation Scholarship pays for
Here is what is listed for 2026:
- Tuition for the academic year. The money goes straight to your school, not to you.
- Textbooks and learning materials, but only for the students who get selected.
- WAEC or NECO registration sponsorship, for secondary school students.
Hostel, feeding and transport are not listed, so plan for those yourself.
Documents you need for the Dele Awe Foundation Scholarship application
Get these ready before you open the form:
- Your admission letter or your current results
- One passport photograph
- A one-page statement about your goals
- An attestation letter from your HOD (that’s your Head of Department)
The HOD letter is the one that can slow you down, since it depends on another person. Ask for it now, not in the last week. You don’t want to be chasing a signature on October 29.
How to apply for the Dele Awe Foundation Scholarship 2026
- Get the form. You can use the Google application form, or you can email deleawefoundation@gmail.com with your name, school and year of study. You can also collect a form from your school’s coordinator.
- Fill in your academic, personal and school details. Make them match your school records exactly.
- Attach all the documents listed above.
- Submit before October 30, 2026.
Check that every document is attached before you submit. An incomplete application can cause you problems.
How to write the one-page goals statement for this scholarship
This is the part you control most, so spend time on it. The foundation has not published how it scores the statement, so just write what any reader would want to see. Our post on how to write a scholarship personal statement people will read goes deeper. For this one, cover these:
- Who you are, your community, your school and your course.
- Why you need the help. Be specific and true.
- What you plan to do after you finish school.
- How the scholarship will change things for you.
Keep it to one page. Short sentences. No big English. A long, stuffed paragraph is hard to read, so don’t write one.
How to show financial need in your Dele Awe Foundation application
Financial need is one of the three eligibility conditions, so don’t leave it vague. Write plain facts about your situation: who pays your fees now, what your family does for a living, how many children are in school at the same time. Only write what is true, and make sure it matches your school records.
Mistakes to avoid when applying for the Dele Awe Foundation Scholarship
Plenty of students who qualify still lose their slot to small errors. We covered the general ones in common mistakes that make Nigerian students lose scholarship slots. For this scholarship, watch out for these:
- Waiting for the last week to ask for the HOD letter.
- Applying from outside the four communities.
- Form details that don’t match your school records.
- Leaving out one of the four documents. Miss one and the application is incomplete.
20-day plan before the Dele Awe Foundation Scholarship deadline
| Dates | What to do |
|---|---|
| October 10 to 13 | Confirm your community. Get the form. Ask your HOD for the letter. |
| October 14 to 20 | Get your admission letter or results and your passport photo. Write the first draft of your statement. |
| October 21 to 26 | Fix the statement. Let someone you trust read it. Fill the form. |
| October 27 to 29 | Check everything and submit. |
| October 30 | Last day. Don’t plan to apply on this day. |
