Federal Government Laptop Loans (C.L.I.C.K.D) How to Apply and Who Can Actually Qualify Right Now

FG’s new C.L.I.C.K.D scheme lets you collect a laptop, phone, or tablet on credit and pay back in bits instead of upfront. But the first batch is only 1,000 laptops, and CREDICORP has confirmed only 3MTT fellows for now. Anyone can still apply on credicorp.ng/clickd, no interest rate or repayment terms are out yet, so apply if you qualify, but don’t get your hopes too high if you don’t.

Since Tuesday, every Nigerian blog you open has a version of “how to apply for FG’s laptop loan.” Everybody’s giving you the steps. Almost nobody’s telling you the part that actually matters: as things stand, most people reading this cannot get a laptop from this scheme, no matter how correctly you fill the form.

That’s not a reason to skip it. Just read this before you get your hopes up.

So wetin be C.L.I.C.K.D?

C.L.I.C.K.D stands for Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices. The Federal Government launched it in Abuja on Tuesday, July 21, through CREDICORP (the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation), working with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy under Dr Bosun Tijani.

The idea is straightforward. Instead of saving up to buy a laptop or phone outright, you collect the device now and pay back in bits, like an installment plan. CREDICORP’s MD, Uzoma Nwagba, says the rollout has already started in Abuja, where 77 people have collected their laptops.

This is the federal government laptop loans scheme everyone’s suddenly talking about, and it’s real. The details matter more than the hype though.

The part most posts are skipping

This launch is a pilot. Just 1,000 laptops, all locally assembled, for this first round. CREDICORP has only confirmed one group as eligible for those 1,000 units: fellows of the Federal Government’s 3MTT programme (3 Million Technical Talent).

Not “every hardworking Nigerian.” Not “every student.” 3MTT fellows.

The application form does list other programmes too: Andela Learning Community, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa, Learn2Earn, and Genesys Tech Hub, as options you can tick. Some blogs are running with that as confirmation that those groups qualify too. CREDICORP hasn’t confirmed it. It could mean expansion is coming, or it could just be a form built ahead for later phases. Nobody knows yet, so don’t hang your hopes on it.

If you don’t belong to any of these programmes, you can still fill the form. It won’t cost you anything, and CREDICORP could use it to plan the next round. Just don’t expect a laptop at your door next week.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Go to credicorp.ng/clickd.
  2. Click “I’m Interested.” This opens the application form.
  3. Pick your state of residence, from the 36 states plus FCT.
  4. Choose what describes you: salary earner, freelancer or self-employed, business owner, student, job seeker, or NYSC member.
  5. Fill in your monthly income if you want to, it’s optional. Ranges go from below ₦100,000 to above ₦1 million.
  6. Say if you belong to any of the listed programmes: 3MTT, Andela, ALX, HNG, AltSchool, Learn2Earn, Genesys Tech Hub, or “Other.”
  7. Choose the device you need (laptop, smartphone, tablet, or other) and why you need it: learning, remote work, freelancing, software development, content creation, or business.
  8. Confirm your details, tick the consent boxes, and submit.

It takes a few minutes. No cost to apply, no forms to buy.

Wetin CREDICORP never tell us

No interest rate. No repayment period. Nothing on what happens if you can’t pay on time. Everybody’s branding this “affordable financing,” but affordable compared to what, over how long? Wait for those numbers before you get too attached.

Mind those agents

The application is free, full stop. If any “connection man,” WhatsApp group admin, or random agent asks you for money to submit your form or “speed things up,” walk away. That’s not CREDICORP. Apply yourself, directly, on the official site.

Bottom line

3MTT fellow? Apply now, the batch is small and it won’t last long. Not a 3MTT fellow? It costs nothing but a few minutes to try, just don’t get your expectations too high until CREDICORP confirms wider eligibility. We’ll update this post the moment there’s clarity on interest rates, repayment terms, or who else qualifies.
