In his words, every outstanding backlog will be paid, and no eligible student will be left behind. Several students have already shared their credit alerts online as proof that the money is going out.
This isn’t the first alert some students have seen this month sha. About a week before this, a lot of beneficiaries received N20,000, which many assumed was just the regular monthly upkeep. Now that June and July have followed with N40,000 combined, some students are looking at N60,000 credited to their accounts within a matter of days. Why the Delay in the First Place
For anyone who wasn’t following the drama, NELFUND upkeep payments have been hit by delays for months now. Back in June, a source close to the fund confirmed there was a technical glitch on the portal that was messing with disbursements, and the team was working to reconcile the affected accounts. Then in July, a fake circular claiming NELFUND had suspended upkeep payments entirely started making rounds online, and NELFUND had to come out and deny it, warning students to only trust information from their official channels.
So this latest batch of payments is essentially NELFUND clearing its name and its books at once. The wahala of the past two months is finally being sorted, at least for the students whose payments have gone through.
What to Do If You Haven’t Received Yours
Since the payment is going out in batches and not all at once, don’t start panicking if your alert hasn’t come yet. A few things worth checking while you wait:
Log in to your NELFUND dashboard and confirm your loan status still shows as approved and your bank details are correct. A lot of past payment issues came down to mismatched names or outdated account numbers, so this one is worth double-checking. Also make sure the account you registered is a normal commercial bank account, since NELFUND has had issues in the past with digital-only banking apps causing failed transfers.
If everything checks out on your end and you still haven’t gotten paid after a few days, the safest move is to reach out through NELFUND’s official portal or NANS rather than random pages on social media claiming to help. There’s been enough fake information going around this scheme already, no need to add “scammed by a fake NELFUND agent” to your wahala list.
Our Take
Two months’ worth of upkeep in one drop is good news, no doubt, but it also shows a pattern worth watching. This isn’t the first time NELFUND has had to play catch-up on delayed allowances, and it probably won’t be the last. If you’re depending on this money for feeding or rent, it might be wise not to plan your month strictly around when the alert is supposed to enter, since “supposed to” and “when e go really enter” have not always matched for this scheme.
