The Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (AKSUBEB) has thrown open applications for 1,000 teaching positions, and honestly, the clock is already running out. The portal shuts on Friday. That’s just a few days from now, so if you’re reading this, don’t keep it for later.
What AKSUBEB Actually Announced
The Executive Chairman of AKSUBEB, Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk, announced that the board is recruiting 1,000 qualified teachers for public primary and junior secondary schools across the state. The board says the goal is to fix the teacher-pupil ratio and get more competent hands into classrooms, and it’s tied to Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda for human capital development.
This isn’t the old-style AKSUBEB recruitment where you typed your application and dropped it off at your Local Government’s education office. This one is fully digital, and the board has been clear that they want to cut out middlemen entirely, so everything runs through one portal.
Who Can Apply
Two things you must have before you bother trying:
- You must be an indigene of Akwa Ibom State. The board says the exercise is exclusively for indigenes.
- You must hold a valid education degree or certificate from a recognised tertiary institution. If your qualification isn’t education-related, this particular recruitment likely isn’t for you.
Beyond that, the board hasn’t published a long list of extra conditions, so don’t let anyone online sell you a “requirements checklist” for money. What you see above is what’s officially out there.
How to Apply
Here’s the part that matters most: applications go through the ARISE Youth Employment Portal at employment.akwaibomstate.gov.ng. No paper forms, no submitting at the LEA office, no third party.
- Go to the portal and create your login.
- Fill in your bio-data exactly as it appears on your certificates. Small mismatches (a middle name missing here, a date typed wrong there) are one of the most common reasons genuine applicants get screened out at this stage.
- Upload your credentials: your degree or NCE certificate, and any other document the portal asks for.
- Submit before the portal closes and keep your application reference somewhere safe.
After submission, AKSUBEB runs an automated screening of everyone’s uploaded documents. Only candidates who scale that stage get invited to sit the Computer-Based Test (CBT).
The Deadline You Really Can’t Ignore
The portal opened at midnight on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, and it’s set to close automatically on Friday, July 31, 2026. There’s no word yet of any extension, and going by how these state portals usually behave, don’t bank on one. If you’ve been “planning to apply soon,” soon needs to become today.
About the CBT
Don’t relax once your application goes in. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a CBT that tests pedagogical knowledge, subject mastery, and digital literacy. That last one catches a lot of people off guard. It means you’ll want to be comfortable using a computer or tablet under exam conditions, not just strong on paper. If it’s been a while since you sat any computer-based exam, it won’t hurt to practice on any free CBT simulation app before your invite comes.

One Thing to Watch Out For
This recruitment is free. No agent, no “runs,” no payment to anybody should ever come into it. Every past AKSUBEB exercise has attracted its fair share of fraudsters promising guaranteed slots for a fee, and this one won’t be different. If someone asks you to pay before you can apply or before you get shortlisted, that’s your cue to walk away.
