SMEDAN is giving ₦50,000 to nano businesses under its Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS). The register form is on the official SMEDAN page right now. The page shows no deadline.
About this SMEDAN ₦50,000 Conditional Grant Scheme
SMEDAN stands for Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria. It’s the federal agency that looks after small businesses. The Conditional Grant Scheme is its way of putting a little money into the smallest businesses, the ones run by one person or a few helpers at local government level.
It’s a grant, so you don’t pay it back. The “conditional” part means you have to do something in return. In this case, you must employ one person.

Who is eligible to apply for the SMEDAN Conditional Grant Scheme
SMEDAN’s page says the scheme is for nano businesses at the LGA level. A nano business is a very small one. Think of a tailor with a small shop, a phone repairer, a petty trader.
Have these ready before you start:
- A business that is actually running in your local government area.
- Your CAC number. The form marks it with a star, which means you can’t skip it.
- Business name, industry, and how many years you’ve been in business.
- Phone number and email that work. Use ones you check often, not one you stopped using last year.
- Readiness to hire one person once the money comes. That’s the condition.
What you can use the ₦50,000 grant for
SMEDAN’s page says the money should go into things that help the business do better. That means equipment, technology upgrades, growing the business, training, reaching more customers, or working capital.
Be realistic. ₦50,000 will not buy a big machine. It’s better to pick one thing that helps you earn more, like a tool you keep borrowing or stock that sells fast, than to spread it thin.
The condition of employing one person in the SMEDAN grant
You get the ₦50,000 on the condition that you employ one person. That is the whole point of the scheme: jobs at the grassroots.
SMEDAN’s page does not say how long the person must stay, how much you must pay them, or how SMEDAN checks that you hired someone. Don’t assume answers. Wait for SMEDAN to tell you.
The page also says grant recipients may be asked for periodic reports or take part in evaluations. So keep simple records: who you hired, when they started, what you bought with the money. Receipts too.
Job seekers, this part is for you too. A business owner who gets the grant has to take someone on, so small shops around you may need a helper soon. Keep your eyes open, and see entry-level jobs Nigerian graduates with no experience can still apply for in 2026 while you wait.
How to apply for the SMEDAN Conditional Grant Scheme
- Open the official page: smedan.gov.ng/our-programs/cgs/
- Scroll down to “Register, Benefit, Thrive”. The Register Interest form is there.
- Fill in your full name, email, phone number, business name, CAC number, industry, and years in business. There’s also a Program box.
- Read everything again before you submit. One wrong digit in your phone number and SMEDAN can’t reach you.
- Submit. Then keep an eye on your email and phone.
The page doesn’t say what happens after you submit or when payment is made. So don’t sit and wait for a date that no one has given.
Apply only on smedan.gov.ng. The scheme page asks for no payment. Anyone asking you to pay to “process” your grant is a scammer.
[LOCAL TIP: add a real detail from your own experience, like how the form behaves on a slow network or what trips people up]
If your business is not registered with CAC yet
The grant form asks for a CAC number, and that stops a lot of small business owners. SMEDAN and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) launched a free business name registration for 250,000 businesses.
How it works:
- Go to portal.smedan.gov.ng/signup and create an account.
- Have your NIN ready, plus your business name, address and sector.
- When it asks if you have a CAC number, choose “No”.
- You’ll get a SMEDAN Unique Identification Number (SUIN). SMEDAN then guides you on the CAC part.
That programme is separate from the grant, and I can’t confirm from here that free slots are still open, so check the portal. Also, the grant form asks for a CAC number and doesn’t say whether a SUIN can stand in for it. If the form won’t accept you without one, finish the CAC registration first, then come back.
SMEDAN Conditional Grant Scheme and Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme are not the same thing
Both give ₦50,000 to nano businesses, and that’s why people mix them up. They’re two different schemes.
The Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme (PCGS) is run by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment with the Bank of Industry. The one in this post is run by SMEDAN. Applying for one does not mean you applied for the other, and a flyer about one tells you nothing about the other.
Scam warning for the SMEDAN ₦50,000 grant
Fake pages have gone round before saying a “Batch B” of the Presidential grant is open. They ask you to complete tasks, then tell you “you are qualified” and push you to share the link. That was false. There was no such batch.
Same rule here. If a link isn’t on smedan.gov.ng, don’t type your details into it. And if you see a flyer promising monthly payments, check it first. We did that for another one: NFSP call for applications for vulnerable Nigerians, government has not confirmed the ₦100,000 monthly payment.
