ECOWAS has opened its 2027 Young Graduates Immersion Programme, with 90 slots for a one-year placement running January to December 2027. You need to be 32 or younger, hold a degree, and be a citizen of an ECOWAS country including Nigeria. Past batches paid $500 a month for immersion at home or $800 abroad, plus insurance and a flight ticket if posted outside your country. Apply at youngprofessional.ecowas.int before August 31, 2026.

ECOWAS just opened applications for its 2027 Young Graduates’ Professional Immersion Programme, and Nigerian graduates are on the list of people who can apply. It’s a full year working inside real ECOWAS offices, and it comes with pay.

Applications opened on July 31, 2026, and this batch is for 2027. ECOWAS says there are 90 slots this time. Past batches had fewer, around 80, so there’s a bit more room this year.

Who can apply for this opportunity

You need to be a citizen of an ECOWAS member country. That covers Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Liberia, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Cabo Verde, and Togo. Age matters too: 32 years old is the cutoff. On the degree side, a Bachelor’s is the minimum, though a Master’s or PhD counts as well, as long as it’s from a recognized school. And since ECOWAS runs on three working languages, English, French, and Portuguese, you should be comfortable in at least one.

One more thing. Under the programme’s rules, you can’t do this immersion twice. If you’ve already gone through it before, this round isn’t for you.

Benefits you actually get

This is the part most flyers skip over. Based on ECOWAS’s official terms for the programme, here’s what past batches were paid: $500 a month if you do your immersion inside your own country, or $800 a month if ECOWAS posts you to a different member country, both for up to 12 months. If you’re posted abroad, you also get a return flight ticket. Either way, you get life, accident, and health insurance for the whole period. Housing and local transport are on you though, so factor that in.

Beyond the money, you get a supervisor watching over your work, proper training, mentorship, and contact with people working across the region. This doesn’t guarantee you a job at ECOWAS afterward. But it puts something solid on your CV and gets you real contacts most graduates your age won’t have.

Documents you’ll need

  • Your CV, in PDF
  • A cover letter or motivation letter, in PDF
  • Your passport or national ID
  • Copies of your academic certificates

How to apply

Applications go through the official ECOWAS portal at youngprofessional.ecowas.int. You’ll create an account, fill in your personal details, add your academic and work background, then upload your documents. Check everything twice before you submit, because once it’s in, it’s in. You can apply for up to two different positions, but you only need one cover letter for both. See more information

Deadline

Applications close on August 31, 2026, by 11:59pm Nigerian time. Don’t wait till the last day sha, a portal like this tends to slow down once everyone rushes in together.
