The official Nigeria Police recruitment portal is https://npfapplication.psc.gov.ng. The Police Service Commission (PSC) runs it together with the Nigeria Police Force, and it’s where you register, fill the form, upload your documents, check your status and print your slips.
Latest status (updated October 15, 2026): The portal takes applications only when the PSC announces a recruitment round. The last round, for 50,000 constables, closed on February 8, 2026. No new round has been announced yet. But keep up with us on ApplyTimes.com, as we will share updates whenever there is new recruitment status.
About the Nigeria Police recruitment portal
Police recruitment in Nigeria goes through one website. You don’t apply at a police station, and you don’t apply through an agent. The PSC says all applications must be submitted online on its official portal.
The portal is free. Nobody should collect money from you at any stage, not at the portal and not at a cyber cafe. The PSC even warned cyber cafes and agents against charging applicants.
Requirements for the Nigeria Police recruitment (General Duty and Specialist)
General Duty is the normal police constable job. Specialist is for people who already have a trade or skill the Police need, like drivers, tailors or dog handlers.
These are the requirements from the latest round. The PSC puts the full list on the portal every time, so a new round can change the age limit or the number of credits.
Requirements for General Duty constable applicants
- Be a Nigerian citizen by birth.
- Age: 18 to 25 years.
- Five O’Level credits (WAEC, NECO or GCE) with English and Maths among them, from not more than two sittings. You don’t need a degree.
- Height of at least 1.67m for men and 1.64m for women. Men also needed a chest of 86cm.
- Medically, physically and mentally fit, with good character and no criminal record.
- Women must not be pregnant during training.
Requirements for Specialist applicants
- Same rules on citizenship, fitness, character and pregnancy. No height rule here.
- Age goes up to 28, so it’s 18 to 28.
- Four credits is enough, English and Maths included, from two sittings at most. But you also need three years of experience in your trade, plus a trade test in that field.
Documents for the Nigeria Police recruitment application
For the online form, you needed soft copies (scans) of these:
- First School Leaving Certificate
- SSCE or NECO result
- Birth certificate
- Certificate of local government or state of origin
- Your NIN, a working email address and a phone number you actually pick up
Specialists added their trade test certificates. Drivers added a driver’s licence.
Screening was different. They wanted the originals, so don’t throw the paper copies away. This is what applicants were told to bring:
- The original NIN printout or card from NIMC
- O’Level certificate, birth certificate (or declaration of age) and certificate of origin
- Five forms printed from the portal: the Invitation Slip, Guarantors Form, Credential Screening Form, Physical Screening Form and Application Submission Slip
- A guarantor’s form, filled and signed, with photocopies and passport photos of the referees
Originals and a duplicate set went into two separate white flat files, each with recent passport photographs. Get the packaging wrong and you’re wasting your own time at the screening centre.
Steps to apply on the Nigeria Police recruitment portal
When a round is open, this is how the application works:
- Open npfapplication.psc.gov.ng. Type it in yourself, and don’t tap a link a stranger sent you on WhatsApp.
- Register with your NIN, an email you check and a phone number you use. The PSC sends notices by email, SMS and through the portal.
- Choose your category, General Duty or Specialist.
- Fill in the form and upload your scanned documents.
- Submit. Later, log in again to check your status and print your slips.
You will usually noticed, the site slows down when recruitment is going own during the day time due to high number of people try to apply on the portal at the same time.
Specialist jobs in the Nigeria Police recruitment
The Specialist side was wide:
- Transport: drivers, mechanics, auto-electricians and dispatch riders.
- Medical assistants.
- Forensic assistants and general operatives, under EOD-CBRN.
- Dog handlers for the K9 section, and horse riders for the mounted troop.
- Marine unit: deckhands, divers, engineers and boat mechanics.
- Artisans, meaning electricians, plumbers, welders and AC and refrigeration technicians.
- Tailors, communication and IT technicians and operators, and musical equipment specialists for the band section.
How the last Nigeria Police recruitment round went
Applying is only the first step. Here is what happened after it in the 2025/2026 round for 50,000 constables. More than 400,000 people had applied by the time the deadline was extended, which is at least eight applicants for every slot.
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| December 15, 2025 | Portal opened |
| February 8, 2026 | Closing date, after a two-week extension from January 25 |
| March 9 to April 18, 2026 | Physical and credential screening in all 36 states and the FCT |
| April 28 to 30, 2026 | Written exam |
| July 16, 2026 | List of successful candidates released on the portal |
| August 6, 2026 | PSC handed the 50,000 recruits to the Police Force for training |
At the handover, the Police Force said training would start across the country at the same time once funds are released. A notice telling recruits to report on September 18, 2026 was fake. The Police Force said so on September 2.
How to know when the next Nigeria Police recruitment opens
Before the last round started, the PSC announced the dates in a press release. It said details would go up on the portal, on the PSC and Police Force websites, and on their social media pages.
So the places to watch are the portal itself, psc.gov.ng, and the verified PSC and Nigeria Police Force social media pages. Anything else, treat with suspicion.
What to do if you already applied for the Nigeria Police recruitment
Log in at npfapplication.psc.gov.ng with the details you used to apply, and check your status. In the last round, the PSC opened the list of successful candidates on the portal and said successful people would also get an email and an SMS.
If you made it, you report to the training institution on your call-up slip for a medical check and documentation. Bring your call-up slip, NIN slip, BVN slip, and original and photocopies of your certificates, plus anything else the portal listed.
Fail the fresh medical exam at the training institution and you’ll be asked to leave. Don’t report within the time given, and the PSC treats it as you declining the offer.
How to avoid fake Nigeria Police recruitment portals, lists and notices
The PSC has had to disown a lot of fake stuff this year.
- In June, a fake shortlist for the medical exam went round on social media. The PSC said real notices come by email, SMS and the portal.
- In July, a fake press release talked about medical screening dates and a “State Police Act 2026” with postings to home states. The PSC said it wasn’t theirs.
- On September 2, the Police Force denied that training notice for September 18.
Use only the portal and psc.gov.ng. Ignore anyone selling a slot. And never give your portal password to anybody, whatever they promise.
