NNPC Limited has deployed over 1,000 young Nigerians into permanent roles after a full year of internship, training, and evaluation. The recruitment that produced them started in 2024.
NNPC Limited just gave permanent jobs to more than 1,000 young Nigerians. Not people picked straight from outside. These are people who spent a full year as interns first, going through training and being tested before the company let them stay for good.
The Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, shared the news himself on his page. He called it a big milestone for the company. According to him, the whole batch went through internship, hands-on training, and performance evaluation for one year before they got confirmed.
What he said next is the part worth paying attention to. He made it clear that the offer letter alone didn’t guarantee anyone a job. It only got them in the door. What kept them there was how they performed during that one year. As he put it, the standard NNPC is building is simple: “Talent. Hard work. Fairness.”
How this batch got in from the beginning
This didn’t happen overnight. The recruitment that produced these 1,000-plus staff actually started back in July 2024, under the former GCEO, Mele Kyari. It’s part of NNPC’s bigger plan to build up young talent since it became a fully commercial company under the Petroleum Industry Act.
So if you’re wondering why it took two years from application to full job, that’s your answer. NNPC doesn’t just pick people and hand them a permanent seat. Graduate trainees go in first, get trained and watched closely for a year, then only the ones who prove themselves get confirmed. That’s the pattern, and it’s been the pattern for a while now sha.
What you need to have ready before apply NNPC internships
NNPC’s graduate trainee programme isn’t open to everybody. You’ll usually need a good degree, First Class or Second Class Upper from an accredited school, or an HND with Upper Credit. Your NYSC discharge certificate has to be ready too, no exceptions. Age matters as well; past intakes have set the cut-off somewhere around 28 to 30 for graduate applicants, so check the exact figure when a new window opens.
Experienced hires face a different set of requirements entirely, mostly built around years worked and proven skills in oil and gas rather than fresh certificates.
Can you apply right now?
Straight answer: no. We checked the official careers portal directly, and it currently shows that application submission is closed. So if you see a website telling you NNPC recruitment is “now open” and asking you to rush and apply, be careful. A lot of those sites are outdated or just repeating old information to get clicks. The only place to trust is careers.nnpcgroup.com, and right now, it’s shut.
Even the NNPC/Seplat entrepreneurship programme, which isn’t a job but a business training and funding scheme, closed its window back in March. So for now, there’s nothing open on either side.
What you can do is keep an eye on careers.nnpcgroup.com yourself. NNPC doesn’t recruit every month. When the next graduate or experienced hire window opens, it’ll show there first, and that’s usually when the third-party sites start writing about it too, sometimes before it’s even confirmed.
